Old maps can be very useful for family historians, helping to locate where ancestors lived. Ordnance Survey maps are probably the most familiar. Various editions/series have been published:
- 1st (Old) Series 1805-1874
- New Series 1872-1897
- Revised New Series 1895-1904 (RN)
- 3rd Edition 1903-1919
- 4th Edition 1911-1912
- Popular Edition 1919-1926
- 5th Edition 1931-1939
- New Popular (6th) Edition 1945-1947 (NPE)
- 7th Series 1952-1962
