DNA Testing

Both my parents have taken Autosomal DNA tests with Family Tree DNA (called Family Finder). I have also uploaded their results to MyHeritage and GEDmatch. The batch numbers on GEDmatch are T859221 for my father and T851709 for my mother. My father, my maternal aunt and I have also taken Ancestry DNA tests.

On my family tree website, people with a symbol have a verified DNA connection to me.

Paternal lines

Maternal lines

Lines verified by DNA in green (number of matches as of 13 March 2024 in brackets).

Outcomes

DNA testing has helped me in the following ways:

  1. breaking down brick walls e.g. Finding my great-great-grandfather

But it has also created more issues:

  1. Is James Dagnell really my 2xg grandfather? I have no DNA matches to descendants of any of his siblings, nor Dagnell/Duignan matches further back. But I do have lots of matches to people with the surname Knight in their tree, from the Boyounagh/Glenamaddy area in Galway.
  2. Is John Tandy really my 2xg grandfather? I have DNA matches to Amelia Tandy's siblings, and to her mother Mary Ann Bryan's family, but none to her putative father John Tandy. I am leaning towards Amelia's father being one of the sons of Job Hough of Hampton Lucy.
